The Maritime and Coastguard Agency is advising boat owners, shipping companies and anyone who puts out to sea about a change in some of the VHF channel numbers used to contact UK Coastguard.
As a result of changes to Appendix 18 (Marine VHF) of the Radio Regulations it will mean that VHF channels 23, 84 and 86 will no longer be used for either Maritime Safety Information (MSI) or Radio Medical Advice. The channels to use from September 2017 will be VHF 62, 63 and 64. The use of VHF Channel 10 for MSI and pollution control (back up) is unchanged.
Twenty one members of Oxted Offshore set off from Trogir on Saturday 3rd of September 2016 on five sailing vessels Fado, Pepito, Julie, Ivolga and a large catamaran Chardonnay. Many of the group had been in Croatia a few days earlier so they could spend time exploring the historic sights of Split and Trogir and become acclimatised to the 31 degrees.

11 members of Oxted Offshore and 4 boats cast off for Bembridge on the Isle of White during the last weekend in July for the Oxted Offshore Summer Rally. With low water occurring late morning on Saturday it was a little challenging getting over the bar at Bembridge but it was worth it to discover such a lovely little harbour. The marina staff and facilities were good and we managed to get all boats moored for around 18:00 in time for Commodores Cocktails on Degree of Latitude.

After a pleasant evening unwinding in Hamble we knew that Saturday was going to need an early start because on Degree of Latitude we had no sails. Given that we were supposed to be racing the next day that was a bit of a challenge.
This years Annual Dinner took place at Tandridge Golf club and was attended by 40 members. This glittering occasion gives Oxted Offshore members the opportunity to wear something other than shorts and deck shoes, to warmly welcome new members, and to deal with the ‘formalities’.

We managed a fleet of five yachts for the rally to Poole, the weather was variable and we had a storming sail from Cowes down to Poole on Saturday. So it was congratulations to JT and the crew of eVent who managed the trip in 2 hours 55 minutes and won the the race that even Lawrence and Jasper were unable to prevent with creative handicapping.
Following on from last years successful trip to Skiathos Nicky and Howard from Nautilus Yachting have kindly organised for another event this year in Greece’s beautiful North Ionian including Paxos and Anti-Paxos. Three boats are already confirmed for the flotilla departing on Sunday September 29th for Preveza airport and arriving back in the UK on Sunday 6th of August.

Over the Easter weekend I joined John Rutherford and a mixed crew from the Royal Southern, Solent University and BP for the JOG race to Cherbourg and back. The main point of note was 3deg less wind chill. After an 8am start, pretty consistent weather with around a 20 knot easterly rising to an exciting 30+ in Cherbourg Harbour, how did that happen?
